At the start of 2009 the first microcredit was handed over to “The Lovely Mothers Group” of Jinkfuin so they could restart their palm oil business (bulk buying, bottling, and sell the product on the market). They proved to be serious and a stood a good example for other groups. For this reason we extended the project and in 2010 we set up contracts with 4 other groups (amounts between EUR 200,- and 650,-) and the credit for the Lovely Mothers was increased (EUR 1.000,-).

The ladies are mainly involved with the following businesses: bulk buying and retails sales, manufacturing and sales of soap, manufacturing and sales of canned veggies and similar.

Budget: EUR 2.900,- (5 microcredits). Thanks to Fundación Banesto and several members of KIRABO.

House for sick and disabled children with special needs

Life is not easy for those born in Africa. Lack of resources, very low level of education, extreme climatic conditions, AIDS, wars and natural catastrophes make development difficult for those who are really looking forward to it. Nevertheless these people are open, warm and show joy, dignity and hope towards life.

This is a solidarity project, a necessary project but above all, it is a project full of hope and expectations. It is a project to be shared by many people from here and from there so that we can all learn from each other. The construction of the house of the Sun was recently finished. It is placed close to Belo and there is space enough to host a vegetable orchad or run a sustainability project with goats or chicken.

The budget of the constructions amounts to approx. EUR 14.980,- thanks to donations from Fundación Isolana and Share4More – Rabobank the Netherlands and members of KIRABO.

The ASEP in the new building started in spring 2009 and is a real success. Many children use the facilities and an improvement has been observed. In order to protect the building and the area we are presently painting the same, construction a reinforcement wall and planting vetiver grass in order to avoid soil erosion (a big problem in this area).

A gate is being put in place so that not everyone can just walk in and toilets and water access will soon be a reality. Last but not least cupboards and school material is being bought and we will be able to contract an additional teacher for 1 year.

All works were finished in spring 2011.

Budget: EUR 2.700,- thanks to donations from Spain (los Espartanos) and Holland (RaboBank Cooperatie Fonds).

Itinitwang - Boyo Division. The hamlet is located between the villages of Jinkfuin, Djichami, Belo and Aboh. The population is composed of over 800 adults, almost 400 children in school age and around 300 children less than 5 years of age. There is a lovely view of the valley from here and the vegetation consists of large fields, small shrubs and fruit trees growing along the roads.

Many of its inhabitants had frequent health problems due to the lack of access to drinking water as there were no fountains nearby. The water they used to drink came directly from the river which is not always of very good quality.

Aims of this project:

-improving the health status of the villagers, especially of young kids and pregnant women by supplying drinking water to the population by means of 8 public fountains, distributed throughout the village.

-achieving more time and energy for children (to be spend on their studies) by avoiding them to walk long distances in search of water and carry heavy jerry cans back.

-attracting more people/small businesses to the area; with water it will be easier to build.

The implementation of this project finished in January 2010. Villagers, students and elder have worked with the technical team in order to make this project come true.

Budget: EUR 21.076,-. Collected by the villagers, local administration: EUR 7.501,- Kirabo: EUR 13.575,- thanks to funds received from NGO Africa Directo, relatives and friends.
